Borehamwood Market set to close for good

Hertsmere Executive Group announced its plans to close the market at the end of August 2022, when the current contract expires.

It was a unanimous decision at our Executive meeting earlier this week (Wednesday 8 June).

The market, which takes place every Tuesday and Saturday along Borehamwood High Street, has seen a significant reduction in demand, footfall and changes with online shopping habits which has resulted in a reduction of stalls and breadth of services.

Currently, Borehamwood market has between four and six traders operating, and has seen a steady decline in stallholders and visitors.

Hertsmere Labor who contested the decision say “Labour’s position is to genuinely invest in a renewal of Borehamwood Street Market as part of our plans for post-COVID economic growth & regeneration of our high streets. Labour is for growth, investment and prosperity. Tories are out of ideas”
