Watford takes part in ‘South-West Herts Great Big Green Week’

Watford Borough Council is supporting ‘South-West Herts Great Big Green Week’ with a range of free walks, talks and events that people can participate in from 29 October– 6 November.

The initiative which is organised by Friends of the Earth aims to inspire residents to make positive changes for their community and planet.

Neighbouring councils Hertsmere and Three Rivers are also supporting the campaign which wants to draw attention to climate change and show how we can all have a positive impact on the planet locally in the day to day actions we take.

There will be a range of events planned for all ages including: a film showing at The Pump House Theatre of ‘The Ants and the Grasshopper’, one woman’s mission to change the mind of climate change deniers, local bird and butterfly talks and chances to get your hands dirty with conservation volunteering.

Watford Borough Council declared a climate emergency in July 2019 and set a target to become a net-zero carbon borough by 2030 and we are working hard to make this goal a reality.

Participating in campaigns such as this is just one of the ways we hope to reach this goal. Others include our ‘Transforming Travel in Watford’ strategy, restoring our natural green spaces through our partnerships with Veolia, Beryl Bikes and Groundwork (who are helping us to restore the River Colne).
